I had read Frank's previous book, and while I enjoyed hearing about his adventures on the road, I found that I skimmed parts of it, there were gigs I didn't attend, and events I didn't understand, and that lead to some frustration.With this book, I know all the songs, I've heard them live and steaming. I had a connection to them. I found it so interesting to hear about the way songs come together and the many different things that inspire them.I'm not a musician; so learning about cords and notes did nothing for me, but I'd imagine it would be meaningful to someone who knew their way around a musical instrument.I would really recommend this book if you are a Frank Tuner fan. I read it in two sitting - having fun playing the songs on Spotify as I read.
For any Frank Turner fan who has even an inkling of musical understanding- this is an extremely wonderful and heartfelt and insightful peek into frank’s mindset and how these delightful and emotional and fun these songs came about.Sure you wish you could listen to Frank discuss every song he wrote, but we’re in the constraints of a book. So I feel like I have a much better understanding of his great art than I ever did before. And he hit most all of the tunes I wanted him to hit.Thank you, Frank. This was a pure joy to get into your thought process and now I can even better appreciate this sound you have imparted upon this world.
if you love his music like I do you know he is a great story teller. You need to get this and know the stories behind the songs
It's not a shock that I love Frank Turner, so it should also come as no surprise that I love his writing as well. This book goes back through some of the songs he's written,and goes through the musical and lyrical theory. So, double bonus. Triple bonus? IT'S INDEXED! Be still my nerdy librarian heart
